Maui Photography FAQs
- What kind of equipment do you use?
We use Canon Digital EOS bodies with Canon and Sigma Lenses. All of our
prints are printed at a professional lab here on Maui using professional-grade
photo paper. Our canvas prints our also professionally printed here on the island.
- What location(s) do you recommend for our family portraits?
The entire island of Maui is available to you for your photo
session, and it truly depends on what type of scenery you are
looking for in your pictures. Maui offers many spectacular beaches,
tropical gardens, sea cliffs, waterfall and other beautiful locations.
For a comprehensive list and sample pictures of many popular locations,
please visit
our Maui Photography Locations Page.
- What time of day do you recommend for my photo session?
Typically, mid-morning between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon is less windy for
beach pictures, and the sky and ocean yields some gorgeous blue colors.
We also recommend sunset photos for the beautiful pinks and purples in
the sky. However, any time of day can be perfect depending on the setting,
and we'll be happy to discuss this further with you.
- How far in advance do I need to book my photo session?
We highly recommend that you book your photo session as early as possible
so that we can reserve a date and time for you. Typically, 2 - 4 weeks
in advance is sufficient if you are flexible with the date and time of
the photo session. However, we have booked photo sessions with as little
as one day's notice -- it just depends on our availability.
To book your photo session now, simply complete our
online request form.
- What should we wear for our family portrait photo session?
There is certainly no right or wrong, however we do suggest something
comfortable that reflects your personality. In many cases, having everyone
in your party wearing similar outfits or colors works very well. White shirts
with khaki pants often allows you to stand out more in your pictures against
the contrasting blues of the sky and ocean, as well as the greens, reds and
yellows of the many tropical flowers. White tops also look especially nice if
everyone is wearing leis.
- How soon will my pictures be ready?
Typically, your images are ready for viewing 7 - 10 days after your
photo session. We put all the pictures taken at your session in a private
album online. This way, only you (and any friends or family you share the
access information with) can view and select your pictures from the comfort
of your home. Once you select and order
the pictures you would like printed, they are usually ready within 3 days.
Larger orders, orders with larger print sizes and canvas prints may take a
little longer. If you are still on the island, you are welcome to pick up
your prints as soon as their ready, or we can always ship them to you for a
low shipping/handling charge. Shipping photographs to the mainland normally
takes 3 - 5 days.
- What happens if it rains during our scheduled photo session time?
Typically, the locations we use for our portrait sessions are seldom rainy,
however it can happen, especially in tropical garden settings. We will be
more than happy to work with you to relocate to a comparable, drier location
or reschedule your session at a time that is convenient for you at no extra charge.
